Horseback riding in Maras & Moray

Description

Description

Horseback riding through the mountains of the Sacred Valley is one of the most unforgettable experiences because you can have a breathtaking view of the Vilcanota mountain range, as well as the glaciers that are the perpetual protectors of the Andes.

Day 1: Cusco – Maras – Moray

At 9:00am we will pick up our passengers from their hotel in Cusco and head to the town of Maras to meet our Horseman and Horses. There will be a brief chat before we mount our horses and begin our journey. First, we will pass through the salt mines of Maras, which are on the slopes of Mount Qaqawiñay, where thousands of small carved stone pools are filled with a flow of salt water diverted from within Qaqawiñay as they have done since Inca times. This artisanal process of salt extraction creates a visually stunning site of varied tones and textures, due to the sunlight bouncing off different levels of salt. The site is jointly managed by the town of Maras. During our journey along the valley’s dirt road, we will enjoy breathtaking scenery surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Andes Mountains. Passing through small villages and crop fields that serve as subsistence for the native villagers. From there we will go to the archaeological complex of Moray (3200 masl), this was an agricultural laboratory in which they experimented with seeds and the development of cultivation. Each concentric circular terrace replicates a different microclimate. We will return to Cusco city around 15:00 hrs.
