Description
The Short Inca Trail combines beautiful mountain landscapes and incredible panoramic views with lush cloud forest and the splendid natural surroundings of the subtropical jungle. It showcases the magnificent work of the Incas, including stone pavement on the trail, agricultural terraces, water sources, tunnels, and astonishing archaeological sites like the famous Sun Gate and the sunset view over Machu Picchu. This hike is perfect for those with limited time or those seeking an easily achievable trek.
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Km. 104 – Wiñayhuayna – Aguas Calientes
We start with the pick up at your hotel at 04:00 am, to go in a tourist car to the town of Ollantaytambo with a travel time of approximately 2 hours, place where we board our train that will take us to Km. 104 where we start our walk, after making our registration in the control we will visit the archaeological site of Chachabamba (2100 masl), then continue our journey for about 4 hours. Then we continue our journey for about 4 hours until we arrive to Wiñayhuayna (2600 masl), here we will have a break to enjoy our lunch (box lunch), then we continue for 2 hours until we arrive to Inti Punku or Sun Gate, where we will have the first views of the mountain of Waynapicchu and the Inca city, we continue for about 40 minutes and arrive to Machupicchu where we will take the traditional photo. Afterwards we will board the bus to the town of Aguas Calientes to go to our hotel and our dinner respectively.
Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Cusco
Very early in the morning we will start our hike to Machu Picchu which will take about 1 hour and a half of ascent. The guided tour will last about 2 hours where we will visit important places such as the Temple of the Sun, the House of the Inca among others; then you will have free time to continue with the visit on your own. Then you will head back to the town of Aguas Calientes to take your train back to Ollantaytambo and then take a tourist car to the city of Cusco.
