The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is ranked as one of the best hikes in the world for its exquisite beauty and wonderful natural surroundings, it is a spectacular experience that must be done at least once in a lifetime. It has a distance of 42 km from km 82 to the citadel of Machu Picchu. People from all over the world come to Peru to do it.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Cusco – Wayllabamba
Very early in the morning we pick you up from your hotel in the car that will take you to kilometer 82, where we will arrive at about 11:00 a.m. and then start the hike. This first day is beautiful and the first kilometers are easy to walk. We will have a beautiful view of the snowy Veronica and also walk near the Vilcanota River until we reach the archaeological complex of Llactapata, where we will have lunch and then continue to our first camp in Wayllabamba where we will spend the night after a refreshing dinner.
Day 2: Wayllabamba – Warmiwañusca – Pacaymayo
After breakfast we start the most difficult part of the trek, but not impossible, where we will walk to the highest point of the Inca Trail where you will have an incredible panoramic view of the whole area and you will be able to observe the different types of microclimates that exist in the area. After approx. 3 hours of walking we will pass the pass called Warmiwañiusca or dead woman that is approx. 4,200 meters above sea level. Here you will have an enormous satisfaction for having reached the highest point of the Inca Trail. After this fabulous experience we will have lunch and then continue descending until we reach Pacaymayo where we will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 3: Pacaymayo – Puya Patamarka – Wiñayhuayna
After breakfast we start walking up to the second most important pass of the Inca Trail which is located at 3,850 m.a.s.l. until we reach the archaeological complex of Runkarakay where we will have a guided tour of the entire complex as well as the citadel of Sayacmarca. After the guided visit we continue walking until we arrive to the archaeological complex of Puyupatamarca another important monument, where we will have lunch, after a short rest we will continue with the walk until we arrive to the last camp Wiñayhuayna (always young) where we will have a guided visit to the impressive archaeological complex. After the guided visit we will have dinner and spend the last night.
Day 4: Wiñay Huayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco
After breakfast, we continue our hike very early in order to arrive in time to appreciate the sunrise at Machu Picchu. After an hour of walking we will pass through the Inti Punku or Sun Gate also known as the gateway to Machu Picchu, where you can appreciate the most impressive panoramic view of the entire citadel. After this experience we will visit for approximately 3 hours all around the Inca citadel, visiting the main sites such as the enclosures, squares, sacred fountains, temples, the agricultural and urban sector. After our guided visit you will have some free time to take pictures, etc. Then after coordination we will meet with the rest of the group to take the bus that will take us to the town of Aguas Calientes (if you wish you can continue to Machupicchu). In the afternoon/evening we return to Cusco by train. End of our services.
