ITINERARY

In this program, we will visit one of Cusco’s new natural attractions, “Rainbow Mountain” or also known as WINIKUNKA (Vinicunca). It is located on a summit at 5,100 meters above sea level and 100 km southeast of Cusco. The tour starts early in the morning; we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between 4:00 and 4:30 am to travel by car for about two hours south, until we reach the Cusipata – Paucarpata district in the Quispicanchi province where we’ll have breakfast.

Then, we’ll travel for another hour by car to reach the control post and begin the hike which will last approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes to reach the base of Red Valley, the access point to this beautiful Rainbow Mountain. We’ll observe the flora and fauna typical of the Andes, including llamas and alpacas, and reach the viewpoint of Vinicunca or Rainbow Mountain (5,100 meters above sea level). Our guide will provide an entertaining explanation about the geography, ecosystem, and colors of the mountain, a natural wonder resulting from the oxides of various minerals forming these geological formations. The slopes and peaks display colors ranging from red, purple, green, pink, yellow, and other interesting hues, with the majestic Ausangate snow-capped mountain also visible.

We’ll also have time to take memorable photos with the mountain and admire the beautiful landscape, then return the same way to the starting point of the hike (Llaqto) where our transport will be waiting to take us back. Return to Cusipata for a delicious Andean lunch. After lunch, we’ll begin our return journey to Cusco, arriving between 4 and 5 pm.
