Ausangate It is one of the spiritual routes, of magical-religious character by the presence of the Cordillera del Vilcanota where the highest snowy of Cusco, the APU AUSANGATE (6372 meters above sea level), the protector god in the Peruvian Andes, imposes itself. During the tour you have the presence of llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, complemented by the presence of human groups. Day 1: Cusco – Chillca
The tour will start in a very comfortable tourist bus, which will take you to the Vilcanota River to visit first the temple of Checacupe and the beautiful valley of Pitumarca. Following the tour, you will arrive at Japura, where you will walk a short distance to reach Chilca. There, the local people will welcome you in your first lodge, playing their Andean instruments and offering you a traditional coca tea. The lodge has hot showers and full bathrooms, as well as 8 double and matrimonial rooms. In addition, you will taste the delicious and nutritious local food, such as alpaca meat, and of course, you will also be able to try vegetarian food or other preferences.
Day 2: Chilca – Machuracay
After breakfast you will hike alongside thousands of alpacas and llamas in the valley of the Phinaya glacier. In search of more glaciers in Santa Catalina, you will hike up the inspiring Pjachaj waterfalls, until you reach a point where you can enjoy a delicious picnic lunch. Then, you will walk for about 5 hours surrounded by moraines, glaciers and lagoons in the direction of Machuracay Tambo. There, the family of the lodge will be waiting to welcome you. It is worth mentioning that a caravan of llamas will carry your luggage during the trip.
Day 3: Machucaray – Anantapata
To begin the day, you will start your first 5 m mountain pass with a spectacular panoramic view. Descending through the glaciers you will continue walking to Ausangate Cocha Lake for lunch. Then you will be immersed in an incredible experience where you will be surrounded by reddish sandstone sediment formations, undoubtedly a unique place. There you will also see vicuñas and if you are lucky some condors. After a day of hiking you will arrive at the third lodge ready to relax and enjoy the rest of the day.
Day 4: Anantapata – Huampococha
After breakfast, you will continue your adventure by going to another mountain pass, where you will descend on foot to Kayrawiri Lake. During the descent, you will be surrounded by mountain peaks, a large valley, and as if that were not enough, you will also have a spectacular view of the colorful streaks embedded in the slopes. Then you will continue your journey to the “Cerro Laya Grande”, passing by the great glacier of the Inca and appreciating the amazing colors of the sediments of Yauricunca. There you will have lunch while contemplating this unique landscape, and then head to the fourth lodge. On the way, you will see hundreds of Andean geese nesting on the cliffs of Anta. You will also be able to appreciate the pyramidal formations of the Apu Labrayani, located near Huampococha Tambo, where you will spend the night on the “Apu Ausangate Trail”.
Day 5: Huampococha – Cusco
To continue your adventure, you will ascend to your last pass where you will have a spectacular view of the mountains. From there, you will descend all the way down and encounter the most fantastic limestone formations dating back to the Cretaceous era. There you will hike all the way to Trapiche and after experiencing a unique journey through the Andes, you will have lunch and then return to Cusco by bus.
